Barcelona is a city that reveals itself slowly. You can spend your day visiting its famous architectural landmarks, wandering through medieval streets, sitting at a roadside café, exploring museums, walking along the beach, or simply watching the city go about its business. What surprised me most about Barcelona was its architecture. I had known about Antoni Gaudà before arriving, but I was not prepared for the creativity, imagination and avant-garde thinking behind his work. Gaudà drew inspiration from nature, and his buildings seem to blur the boundaries between architecture and art. Here are some of the things I would recommend doing and seeing in Barcelona. 1. Marvel at the Sagrada FamÃlia The Sagrada FamÃlia is undoubtedly one of the highlights of Barcelona. Construction began in 1882 and continued under Gaudà until his death in 1926.
